Simply amazing. It had never occurred to me that a pencil could be turned into a piece of art in such a way, and my mind is further blown apart by the patience, dedication and craftsmanship this work shows.
I can only start to imagine how it must have been like to remove that part of the wood envelope without damaging the rest of it or the core, how much care it must have taken to carve such neat and orderly twin coils and even hollow it, all the while preserving the integrity of the graphite lead. Even the photograph is nice, with the lighting giving the pencil an oval frame and a metallic shine, and casting a shadow that further showcases the double helix.
It's really nice to be introduced to a new kind of art through a work of such quality.
